THE COLLECTIVE -
WHATCHAMACALLIT collective was founded in September of 2016 in studio 9, Porthemor Studios, St Ives and consists of two artists: Polly Maxwell and Lulu Cottell. The pair continue to work on joint curation, publication and performance, as well as maintaining their individual artistic practices. Cataloged below are their events and performances to date, please click on the images for more information.
Polly Elizabeth Maxwell lives and works in Manchester. Maxwell’s practice stems from familiar social interactions. Its process is one of seeking comfort, of ascertaining a physical ease that originates in the human and is reproduced in associative materials. The work is an attempt at the inference of familiarity and the sharing of a sentiment.
Lulu Richards Cottell lives and works in London. Cottell's work exists between concerns of Minimalist form, objects and performance. People and society are explored through the mundane and the mannerism. There is an attraction towards the repetitive, in form and in action, with a focus on the beauty of the ordinary and the individuality of small differences.
